REIT
Also known as real estate investment trust
A REIT is a listed company that owns income-producing property and is required to distribute most of its earnings to shareholders, receiving favourable tax treatment in return.
Why It Matters
REITs give investors liquid exposure to property and, because they trade daily, they reprice long before the underlying buildings are revalued.
